MYTH #1: ALL BEES STING. Not all bees can sting. For example, male bees cannot sting. Bees sting only when provoked or feel threatened. MYTH #2: HONEY BEES CAN STING THEIR VICTIM REPEATEDLY. When a bee stings, its barbs get caught in the skin of the animals they sting. Loss of the stinger means the bee dies. MYTH #3: BEES WON'T STING AT NIGHT. They sting anytime, so don’t take any changes. MYTH #4: BEE REARING CANNOT BE DONE IN URBAN AREAS. Bees need flowers and urban hobbyists can successfully rear bees in areas where there is a lot of greenery

 September 16, 2020 After many weeks of self-study, I finally decided to actualize one of my dreams which I had nurtured since childhood. I was a member of the school bee club and had taken few lessons on bees. With my dad teaching in the same school, I grew up in the teacher’s quarters. There were nine houses in a row and in house #9 stayed the bee club instructor – Mr Leo. I grew up watching him take care of his 8 bee boxes and my fascination grew wings. Now working and settled down in Bangalore with a family of my own, I set out to realize my childhood dream – being a beekeeper. I realized from beekeepers that raising bees is very rewarding. I am on that journey. Self-study: If you wish to be a beekeeper (commercial or just a hobbyist), learn as much as you can before buying a bee box. The initiate fear of a bee sting is natural.
